Fujimori Finally Accepts Her Defeat

Far-right candidate in Peru’s presidential election, Keiko Fujimori, has conceded defeat to Pedro Castillo, after more than a month of making baseless claims of ‘electoral fraud’.

“Today I announce that in fulfilling my commitment to all Peruvians, to Mario Vargas Llosa, to the international community, I will acknowledge the results because it is demanded by the law and the constitution that I have sworn to defend,” said Fujimori in a press conference today.

However, she also added, “The defense of democracy does not end with the illegitimate promulgation of Pedro Castillo, this defense has just begun”.

Today, the National Electoral Court (JNE) stated that they have rejected all the motions presented by Fujimori to annul the results of the June 6th election and that the proclamation of the winning candidate will be announced shortly.

Leftist Pedro Castillo won having received 50.12% of the vote, and by a margin of more than 40,000 votes over Fujimori.
