After genre films “Teddy” and “The Year of the Shark,” Ludovic and Zoran Boukherma shift gears with “Their Children After Them,” a highly anticipated adaptation of Nicolas Mathieu’s book, with the first images now revealed.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Winning the Goncourt Prize, like the Palme d’Or, brings its recipient heightened visibility and the chance for notable success. This was the case for Nicolas Mathieu with “Their Children After Them,” awarded on November 7, 2018, and selling over 400,000 copies in the following year.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

To say that its film adaptation is eagerly awaited would be an understatement, as it is set to be one of the major French cinematic events at the end of 2024, with its first scenes already making waves.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Having made a name for themselves with genre films such as “Teddy” and “The Year of the Shark” (following “Willy 1er,” co-directed with Marielle Gautier and Hugo P. Thomas), Ludovic and Zoran Boukherma are taking on a new genre with this drama centered around a love story during the 1990s.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Indeed, it is in 1992 that Anthony (Paul Kircher) meets Steph (Angelina Woreth, seen in “The Rascals”) in Eastern France, marking the beginning of a long narrative interwoven with emotion and violence.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The story, unfolding in 1992, 1994, 1996, and 1998, also intermittently covers the dispute between Anthony and Hacine (Sayyid El Alami, breakout star of the mini-series “Oussekine”), with repercussions that deeply affect their lives. This element is prominently featured in the trailer for the film, which hits theaters on December 4.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Comprising a series of portraits (of its characters, a segment of France, an era), “Their Children After Them” recalls “Crazy Love,” released just days ago, which narrates a tumultuous multi-year romance and also features Gilles Lellouche. Here, Lellouche acts as both actor and producer.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Initially considering directing the adaptation himself before moving on to another project, Lellouche suggested that Ludovic and Zoran Boukherma take over the directorial reins.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Fresh from competing at the last Venice Film Festival, “Their Children After Them” earned Paul Kircher the Marcello Mastroianni Award for Best Young Actor, and the first images set the mood and begin to take us back to the 1990s, showing a commitment to staying true to the original material.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n
