A court document revealed on Monday outlines the agreement, stating that ICE officials “can request IRS data regarding individuals who have received deportation orders or are under investigation,” according to The New York Times<\/em>. The publication described this as a “significant shift from long-standing practices at the IRS, which has traditionally protected the confidentiality of information provided by undocumented immigrants.”<\/p>\n “The erosion of legal safeguards for confidential taxpayer data is alarming, and Krause’s resignation is a testament to the grave implications of this reprehensible act by the Trump administration.”<\/p>\n Lisa Gilbert, co-president of the advocacy group Public Citizen, emphasized that Krause\u2019s impending resignation underscores serious ethical and legal issues with the agreement. Public Citizen Litigation Group represents organizations trying to prevent ICE from getting access to taxpayer information.<\/p>\n Gilbert argued, “Our statutes are designed to safeguard taxpayer information.
