Bruce Willis and Haley Joel Osment created one of the most unforgettable partnerships in cinema history. Their work together in the 1999 masterpiece by M. Night Shyamalan not only made the movie a standout but also one of the greatest of all time, marked by its breathtaking and emotional depth\u2014especially with its mind-bending final twist that stunned audiences worldwide!<\/p>\n

Featuring Bruce Willis, a very young Haley Joel Osment, and Toni Collette, the film became a must-watch. It’s no surprise it was nominated for no fewer than six Oscars in the following categories: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Editing, Best Supporting Actress for Toni Collette, and Best Supporting Actor for Haley Joel Osment.<\/p>\n

In 1999, Osment shared a memorable behind-the-scenes story during an awards ceremony. Introduced by the late Alan Rickman, Haley Joel Osment gave his speech before a room full of celebrities, including Bruce Willis. He reminisced about his first day on set, a day dominated by the heat…<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“The first day of shooting ‘The Sixth Sense’ took place at the end of a very hot summer, and we were filming outdoors, pretending it was a cool autumn day. Bruce wore a trench coat, I wore a thick jacket, and it was very hot and humid. Bruce tends to draw a large crowd when he works outside. Everyone was focused on their work: it was the first day and everyone wanted to do their best, even the crowd was quiet when needed and focused on what was happening. So focused that no one heard the ice cream truck’s bell ringing near the next block. No one, except Bruce.<\/i>“<\/p>\n

He continued: “Bruce walked to the end of the street, grabbed the nearest and most reliable assistant, and the assistant approached the closest Philadelphia police officer. In an instant, sirens blared in the distance, chasing a cheerful unsuspecting man, who ended up with the story of his life when he discovered he was going to distribute ice cream to everyone who came to see [Bruce]. And Bruce Willis paid for the whole neighborhood. The guy didn’t leave until everyone had their ice cream. Well, not quite everyone…<\/i>“<\/p>\n

The young man, then pausing and pretending to be moved, continued his story, eliciting laughter from the audience, including Bruce Willis laughing to tears\u2014and even from the late Michael Clarke Duncan.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“I was working, I was doing a scene with Bruce and of course I had to keep working, and uh\u2026 I didn\u2019t get any. People asked me how I managed all those crying scenes, well, I just kept thinking about that first day at work. Everyone had ice cream, everyone except me.<\/i>“<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Addressing his co-star directly, he concluded: “Bruce, thanks for saving the world one moment and sharing a tear with me the next. You were destined to become larger than life because of the size of your heart.<\/i>“<\/p>\n

Since the announcement of Bruce Willis’s aphasia diagnosis and his early retirement in March 2022, Haley Joel Osment has continuously celebrated the man with whom he started and who became a role model and friend to him, particularly sharing his thoughts on his Instagram account.<\/p>\n

“It has been hard to find the right words for someone I\u2019ve always admired\u2014first on the big screen, and then by sheer luck, in person. He\u2019s a true legend who has enriched our lives with a singular career that spans nearly half a century. I am deeply grateful for what I\u2019ve witnessed in person and for the tremendous body of work he has built for us to enjoy for many years to come. I just wanted to express the respect and deep admiration I have for Bruce and his family as they move forward with the courage and good humor that have always defined them.<\/i>“<\/p>\n
