\n\tWith increasing pressure from two primary opponents and a public push for an unprecedented third impeachment of U.S. President Donald Trump, Representative Shri Thanedar of Michigan initiated the filing of seven impeachment articles against the GOP leader on Monday.\n<\/p>\n

\n\t“Donald Trump has consistently proven himself incapable of presidential duties and poses a severe threat to both our Constitution and democratic system,” Thanedar (D-Mich.) stated. “His illegal activities have undermined the judicial system, breached the division of governmental powers, and prioritized personal ambition over public duty. We must intervene before further harm occurs. It is Congress’s duty to act now.”\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThanedar shared a concise video on social media, outlining the seven impeachment articles detailed in his proposed resolution.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tAccording to a release from the congressman’s office, the accusations against Trump include:\n<\/p>\n

  1. Obstruction of Justice and Misuse of Executive Authority: Encompassing denial of due process, unauthorized deportations, defiance of judicial orders, and manipulation of the Justice Department.<\/li>\n
  2. Encroachment on Congressional Powers: Through the dismantling of agencies established by Congress and the withholding of federal funds.<\/li>\n
  3. Misuse of Trade Powers and International Hostility: Including the implementation of harmful tariffs and threats of military action against other nations.<\/li>\n
  4. First Amendment Violations: By retaliating against critics, media, and lawyers engaging in protected speech.<\/li>\n
  5. Establishment of an Illegitimate Agency: By creating the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and unlawfully granting Elon Musk powers that breach constitutional norms.<\/li>\n
  6. Bribery and Corruption: Involving the dismissal of criminal charges, solicitation of foreign gifts, and coercive settlements for personal and political benefits.<\/li>\n
  7. Abuse of Presidential Authority: Attempting to centralize power, undermine civil freedoms, and ignore constitutional constraints.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    \n\tEarlier in the month, Thanedar had already voiced support for impeaching Trump due to his administration’s refusal to obey a unanimous Supreme Court decision requiring the repatriation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia from a Salvadoran prison to the United States.\n<\/p>\n

    \n\t“The time to act is now,” he asserted then. “Donald Trump and his administration are deporting individuals based on insufficient evidence and without due process to terrible megaprisons abroad. As a congressman, it’s my duty to protect the checks and balances that maintain our democratic integrity and prevent our descent into autocracy. We must draw the line here, or risk Trump continuing to flout the Constitution for his own ends, not those of the nation.”\n<\/p>\n

    \n\t“Enough is enough,” Thanedar emphasized. “We cannot tolerate this blatant grab for authoritarian power. I call on my colleagues from both parties to uphold the Constitution and the American public by supporting this impeachment.”\n<\/p>\n

    \n\tThe push for impeachment coincided with the announcement from a second primary challenger entering the race for Michigan’s 13th Congressional District. State Representative Donavan McKinney (D-11) has joined former state Senator Adam Hollier (D-2), who has previously challenged Thanedar twice and is gearing up for another attempt next year.\n<\/p>\n

    \n\tMcKinney, endorsed by the progressive group Justice Democrats, was described by the organization’s executive director Alexandra Rojas as representing “the future the Democratic Party should strive for: empowering working-class individuals to reclaim their influence from multimillionaires and deliver for the common good.”\n<\/p>\n

    Following Thanedar’s impeachment announcement, Business Insider<\/em> senior politics reporter Bryan Metzger noted on social media that “it’s always interesting to see how primary challenges affect members’ behavior, though usually it’s a bit more subtle than this.”<\/p>\n

    Recent surveys indicate that a significant portion of the electorate disapproves of Trump’s performance and supports a third impeachment. In response to a poll, Alexandra Flores-Quilty from Free Speech for People\u2014a group spearheading the bipartisan Impeach Trump Again campaign\u2014stated on Friday that “Congress must fulfill its duty, defend the Constitution, and impeach and remove Donald Trump for his severe abuses of power.”\n<\/p>\n

    \n\tTrump holds the distinction of being the only president impeached twice by the House of Representatives, although he was acquitted by the Senate on both occasions. Currently, Republicans have a slight majority in both chambers of Congress.\n<\/p>\n

    \n\tWhile Republicans have not shown eagerness to oppose the president, U.S. Representative Al Green (D-Texas) announced at an early April anti-Trump rally that “within the next 30 days, I will introduce articles of impeachment.”\n<\/p>\n
