Lee Child, the creator behind the Jack Reacher literary saga, has made his preference clear between the movies and the television series.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Even though Tom Cruise previously brought his literary hero to life on the big screen, Lee Child, the author of Jack Reacher, is especially taken with the Prime Video series adaptation of his books. As Reacher kicks off its fourth season with Alan Ritchson playing the former military investigator, the character’s creator has praised the “relentless pace” and the binge-watching format which adds to the series’ addictive nature, developed by Nick Santora. “It was very appealing to be able to tell a story over an extended period, as a series spanning a whole season allows,” Child explained to ShortList<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Highlighting Reacher’s Complexity<\/h2>\n

<\/p>\n

“In the books, Reacher is as fully fleshed out as possible, with shades of both dark and light, intense moments and quiet ones. All of this is apparent in the books, but of course, in a short-format adaptation, many things are condensed and lost. We had time to show everything, and that’s one of the things that excited me most and made the whole thing even more effective.”<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Launched in 2022, the first season of Reacher was based on Child’s 1997 debut novel, with subsequent seasons drawing from his later works. Currently in production, season 4 is based on his 2009 novel.<\/p>\n

The Right Medium<\/h2>\n

<\/p>\n

Child continues: “My theory is that if you have a relentless and unceasing pace, it’s as if you have no pace at all. What’s needed is to show the contrasts; the quiet moments make the action scenes even more effective. That’s what made it exciting and fun to produce an entire season about a single story.”<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“I think it’s addictive for a novelist,” he stated. “I can guarantee you that if streaming TV had been around earlier, no novelist would have ever chosen anything else, because it works so much better.”<\/p>\n

A Hero Unlike Any Other<\/h2>\n

<\/p>\n

But there’s more. If the series is the right medium to tell his adventures, he has an intrinsic quality that sets him apart from other TV heroes. And it’s Lee Child himself who points it out:<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“Many heroes have traits that are crafted to make them more interesting. But Reacher isn’t like that, and I think that’s what people like about him. In a way, he’s a reluctant action hero. He’d rather just take the bus and go see something interesting.”<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The fourth season of Reacher is set to premiere in 2026 on Prime Video.<\/b><\/p>\n
