It was Reece Thompson, just 5 years old at the time, who played this character. In a heart-wrenching scene, he simply asks his mother, “What do we do now, Mom?<\/i>” as she reads him a story, moments before they are swept away by the icy waters of the Atlantic. My mom said, ‘Let’s do it. It’ll be cool. Even if the movie sucks, we’ll go see it.’ Obviously, it ended up blowing up, so it wasn’t a bad decision on her part, that’s for sure!<\/i>“<\/p>\n

And the success still benefits Reece. After an initial modest fee and a significant bonus (about $30,000 thanks to the film’s success), he continues to receive a few hundred dollars each year. The amounts vary depending on the time of year: DVD, Blu-ray, and anniversary editions tend to boost the figures. But today, the checks are typically around $100 to $250 annually.<\/p>\n

“It’s weird because it’s not present in my mind. It’s not like I’m thinking, ‘Oh, when will I get a new Titanic check?’ When it arrives, it’s like, ‘Oh, cool, an extra 100 bucks,’<\/i>” he explained.<\/p>\n

He also admitted that he didn’t quite nail the Irish accent: “If you listen, it doesn’t sound very Irish. It just sounds gentle. I remember trying to mimic what the voice coach was attempting. It’s as close as possible.<\/i>“<\/p>\n

Jenette Goldstein, who played his mother in the film, also recalled her young co-star during filming. In a 2022 interview with Cosmopolitan, she shared a touching anecdote: after filming their tragic scene, little Reece asked her with poignant innocence, “‘So, when are we doing the next scene?’ And I said, ‘Which one?’ And he said, ‘The one where we get on the boats and escape.’ Oh my God. I just said, ‘Uh, talk to your mom!’<\/i>“<\/p>\n

Reece Thompson, now in his thirties, lives in Utah, USA, where he works at a ski and snowboard resort. Although his acting career did not continue, he retains a unique memory of his time in the film world\u2014and an IMDb credit to prove it, still listed as “the little Irish boy.”<\/p>\n

As for Titanic, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, it remains a cult classic that has generated over 2.18 billion dollars since its release in 1997. Clearly, the phenomenon continues to change the lives of those involved, even for just one line.<\/p>\n
