Experiencing the Dialogue Between Films: The Unique Joy of Back-to-Back Screenings<\/h3>\n

<\/p>\n

From January 6 to March 19, the golden age of Hollywood and its legacies will be celebrated at the Forum des images with a remarkable program that bridges different eras. The Hollywood Millennials series pairs contemporary works by so-called “millennial” filmmakers with major classics from the Hollywood studios of the 1930s to 1960s that have inspired them.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Pairs like Rio Bravo \/ Dragged Across Concrete, The Wizard of Oz \/ Barbie, Anatomy of a Murder \/ Juror No. 2 will be shown on the same evening to highlight their influences and similarities, with insights from ten specialized speakers. Renowned cinema figures will also share their favorite back-to-back screenings, such as Jacky Goldberg \u2013 a director and journalist at Les Inrocks \u2013 who will present Tony Scott’s D\u00e9j\u00e0 Vu alongside Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window on January 11. Cl\u00e9ment Colliaux, a contributor at the specialized magazine Critikat, will pair James Mangold\u2019s Identity with Frank Capra\u2019s Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.<\/p>\n

On opening night, the Forum des images offers an exclusive premiere of Kelly Reichardt’s The Mastermind (River of Grass; Old Joy) before its release in France on February 4.<\/p>\n

The Forum also presents a comprehensive retrospective of American director Jeff Nichols. From Shotgun Stories to The Bikeriders, and including Take Shelter and Midnight Special, Nichols proves himself a worthy successor to classic American filmmakers, capable of reinventing genres and landscapes, from fantasy to melodrama, from Mississippi to the cotton fields of Arkansas.<\/p>\n

Nine academic courses on the golden age of Hollywood and its legacies will also enrich the sixty screenings of the series, allowing attendees to immerse themselves in the cinematic challenges of different eras.<\/p>\n

Similarly, the POPUP! sessions will highlight the influences and legacies of contemporary video gaming, forgotten studios from the golden age of animated cinema, and a well-known Hollywood figure dedicated to video games: George Lucas, whose journey is depicted in the graphic novel The Wars of Lucas by Laurent Hopman and Renaud Roche. These sessions will offer complementary perspectives and a unique, playful dive into the cultural legacies of cinema.<\/p>\n
