Academy Award-winning director Alfonso Cuar\u00f3n is set to direct a horror series for Apple TV!<\/p>\n

From Gravity to Children of Men, from Roma to Harry Potter 3, the eclectic and talented Mexican director Alfonso Cuar\u00f3n will soon return to our screens with a horror series titled Ascension, based on the novel Last Days<\/i> by Adam Nevill.<\/p>\n

Rumored to have been in development since 2017, as reported by Variety<\/span>, this new series marks the second collaboration between the director and Apple TV, which previously produced and aired his miniseries Disclaimer in 2024. This partnership is expected to continue, as Cuar\u00f3n’s production company, Esperanto Filmoj, has signed a global agreement with the platform for all its television productions.<\/p>\n

What is the Series About?<\/h2>\n

<\/p>\n

Ascension will tell the story of Rose, a dedicated documentarian and recently divorced mother, skilled at uncovering the truths of others but hiding from her own. When she embarks on a project about a mysterious 20th-century cult known as the Church of Ascension, Rose finds unexpected solace in its philosophical teachings, until her research uncovers horrific secrets.<\/p>\n

Who’s in the Cast?<\/h2>\n

<\/p>\n

Written by Alfonso Cuar\u00f3n and his brother Carlos Cuar\u00f3n, who also collaborated on his film Y tu mam\u00e1 tambi\u00e9n, Ascension will star Caitr\u00edona Balfe, known for her leading role in the series Outlander. The rest of the cast remains under wraps for now.<\/p>\n

When Will the Series Release?<\/h2>\n

<\/p>\n

With Apple TV recently greenlighting the project, it’s likely that the script for the series is finalized, and pre-production should begin soon. At this stage, Ascension is not expected to premiere on the platform until at least late 2027.<\/p>\n
