On the set of \u201cReservoir Dogs,\u201d Kirk Baltz wanted to truly inhabit his character. Michael Madsen agreed to lock him in his trunk, setting him up for an unforgettable ride…<\/p>\n

During the 1992 filming of Reservoir Dogs, Kirk Baltz played Marvin Nash, a police officer captured by Mr. Blonde. When he first appears in the movie, the hostage is locked in the trunk of a car before being presented to Mr. White and Mr. Pink.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Eager to experience what his character endured, Kirk Baltz asked his co-star Michael Madsen to help. This was a risky idea given Madsen\u2019s unique temperament and sense of humor, known for portraying Mr. Blonde.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Invited to the Late Show with David Letterman in 1994, Michael Madsen recounted, \u201cHe came up to me and asked me to take him for a ride in the trunk of my car.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cHe wanted to get into the skin of his character, you know,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

An Unexpected Detour to Taco Bell<\/h2>\n

<\/p>\n

Kirk Baltz likely expected to stay locked up just for a few minutes, enough for a short drive around the block. However, Michael Madsen had envisioned a much longer experience.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought it might be fun. I didn\u2019t think I\u2019d have anything to gain from it until I actually put him in the trunk. He wanted me to just drive around the block, but I drove for 45 minutes; I took him on a ride and went to Taco Bell,\u201d he revealed to a laughing audience.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Upon opening the trunk, the joke clearly lost its appeal to Baltz, who had just spent three-quarters of an hour inside.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cHe didn\u2019t appreciate it at all. Especially when I opened the trunk after the ride. He was dripping with sweat, really in a bad state,\u201d concluded Madsen.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Mr. Blonde, One of Tarantino\u2019s Most Disturbing Criminals<\/h2>\n

<\/p>\n

This story gains an extra layer of intrigue when you consider the character played by Michael Madsen. With his chilling calm and unpredictable violence, Vic Vega, aka Mr. Blonde, has become one of the most iconic figures from Quentin Tarantino\u2019s debut feature film.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

As a reminder, the film follows six criminals brought together by Joe Cabot and his son, Eddie, to rob a jewelry store. After the bloody failure of the heist, the survivors regroup in a warehouse and slowly realize that there might be an informant among them.<\/p>\n

Surrounded by actors like Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, and Steve Buscemi, it was indeed the scene in which Mr. Blonde tortures Marvin Nash that firmly established the character as one of the most terrifying in the filmmaker\u2019s repertoire.<\/p>\n

Known for his tough-guy demeanor and straightforward nature, Michael Madsen, who passed away on July 3, 2025, at the age of 67, seemed to share with Vic Vega a certain penchant for somewhat cruel jokes.<\/p>\n
