Cuba No Longer Requires PCR Test For Travelers

It’s no longer necessary for tourists or nationals to present a negative PCR test for entry into Cuba. The Ministry of Public Health has taken this measure due to the fact that 95 percent of the local population is now fully vaccinated. These are the modifications to the requirements for entering the country as part of the International Health Control:

• Elimination of the requirement to present a negative Antigen or PCR test carried out in the country of origin. Presentation of a COVID-19 vaccination certificate is also no longer a requirement.

• Random testing for COVID-19 will be carried out on travelers at points of entry into Cuba, taking into account the number of flights, the entry of vessels, and the epidemiological risk that the country of origin represents.

• If the sample taken at the point of entry is positive, Cuba’s protocols for the clinical-epidemiological control of COVID-19 will be followed.

• All existing measures, at all points of entry into the country, with regard to social distancing and the disinfection of hands and surfaces will be maintained.

• The mandatory use of face masks at all points of entry into the country will be maintained.

Cuba has developed five anti-COVID vaccine candidates: Abdala, Soberana 01, Soberana 02 and Soberana Plus, and Mambisa. Abdala, Soberana 02 and Soberana Plus have already been approved and are vaccines with which the nation has immunized 95 percent of its population. The vaccines will be evaluated by the World Health Organization in order to be included in its list of emergency use.

These drugs are the only COVID-19 vaccines of Latin American origin, a product of the country’s celebrated socialist biotech industry. Abdala has the highest efficiency rate at 92.28 percent with three doses, making it one of the most effective vaccines in the world.
