Bolivia rebukes Bolsonaro’s attempt to harbor Añez

Bolivia is repudiating remarks by Brazil’s Jair Bolsonaro in which he offered asylum to ex-dictator Jeanine Añez, just weeks after a court’s decision to sentence the former senator for 10 years for taking power in the November 2019 coup.

Foreign Minister Mayta confirmed that Añez must comply with the sentence issued by Bolivian justice.

“We regret the unfortunate statements made by the president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, (…) under no circumstances can we accept interference in decisions that sovereignly correspond to the Bolivian justice system,” stressed Foreign Minister Rogelio Mayta.
