Medical Supplies Arrive in Cuba via ALBA-TCP Humanitarian Bridge

3.5 tons of donated medical supplies have arrived in Cuba through the Bolivarian Alliance’s humanitarian air bridge.

The solidarity shipment departed from Argyle International Airport with cargo sent by ALBA-TCP Member States Barbados, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

The humanitarian bridge was first established at the ALBA-TCP Social Council Meeting held in January 2021 with Bank of ALBA and Conviasa acting as financial and operational arms for the logistics of the transfer. The bridge had previously been used to deliver Sinopharm vaccines to Dominica in March and to Antigua and Barbuda in June.

Alliance members Bolivia and Nicaragua, and non-member Mexico, have also formed part of recent regional efforts to support the Cuban people suffering under the illegal blockade imposed by the United States.

“We are deeply grateful to our brothers from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Barbados, Venezuela and the Bank of Alba for this act of friendship and love towards the Cuban people” said Cuba’s Minister of Justice, Oscar Silveira, who received the cargo at José Marti International Airport in Havana. Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez also expressed gratitude over social media.
