US-Cuba Normalization Conference Held in New York
Voices from the United States, Canada and around the world are making a call to amplify international solidarity to defeat the U.S. blockade on Cuba. A two day US-Cuba Normalization Conference was held at The People’s Forum in New York, with representatives of organizations in solidarity with the island.
The meeting promoted coordinated action to condemn the economic and financial siege targeting the Cuban Revolution. More than 243 measures were waged against Cuba under the Donald Trump administration and have been maintained by Joe Biden.
At its opening, Cuba’s permanent representative to the UN, Pedro Luis Pedroso, gave thanks for the shows of solidarity and support for the Cuban people.
Teresa Amarelle Boué, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party and secretary general of the Federation of Cuban Women, and other members of the organization, took part in a panel on women’s advancement and gender parity. They explained the process of analysis of the new Family Code and the National Program for the Advancement of Women.
Messages demanding the cessation of hostilities against Cuba were also heard from participants from South Africa, Grenada, Colombia and beyond.
Another panel centered around the topic of climate change and environmental sustainability and the event concluded with a live musical performance.
