A Guatemalan delegation headed by the Mayan organization Coordinación y Convergencia Nacional Maya Waqib’ Kej has arrived in Cochabamba to participate in the “Meeting of the Peoples of Abya Yala towards the Construction of a Plurinational America” convened by organizations of indigenous peoples, peasants and unions of Bolivia, Ecuador and Argentina.Today’s event at the headquarters of UNASUR in San Benito seeks to draw up steps to articulate actions towards integration and a Plurinational America, at a time when Guatemalans are demanding a Plurinational State. Daniel Pascual of Waqib’ Kej says they want to learn from the experiences of Bolivia and Ecuador.The participation of the Mayan delegation from Guatemala comes as the country has seen multi-sector mobilizations for the past month. They have their own proposals and analysis, says Pascual. He says it’s fundamental that solid bases be built on ancestral roots.
