Honduras Breaks Diplomatic Relations with Taiwan

Honduras has officially recognized the existence of One China and has formally broken diplomatic ties with Taiwan, following a recent announcement by President Xiomara Castro that the country would be taking steps towards formalizing official diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China.

The statement released by the Foreign Ministry late Saturday evening reads as follows:

“The Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, following instructions from the President of the Republic, has communicated to Taiwan the decision to break off diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The Government of the Republic of Honduras recognizes the existence of a single China in the world, and that the Government of the People’s Republic of China is the only Legitimate Government that represents all of China.

Taiwan forms an inalienable part of the Chinese territory. The Government of Honduras has communicated to Taiwan the rupture in diplomatic relations, committing itself not to have any official relationship or contact with Taiwan again. Tegucigalpa, M.D.C., March 25, 2023″
