Venezuela Assembles Tractors with Support from Belarus

The first tractors have been assembled at the Veneminsk and Mazven plants as Venezuela moves into a new phase of economic recovery.

The tractor factory, situated in Hugo Chávez’s birthplace of Barinas, has been reactivated with support from Belarus, as a result of agreements reached in the Venezuela-Belarus High-Level Mixed Commission in December. Officials of the two countries took a tour of the plant on Monday.

During the visit, Minister of Planning, Ricardo Menéndez, said that with the recent visit of a Belarusian air transport team, assessments are being made to turn Venezuela into an epicenter of both cargo and passenger transport for the world.

U.S. sanctions forced many factories to close but now the economy is recovering and Venezuela’s firing on all cylinders as new “waves of production” are being carried out with factories in Belarus, as described by Menéndez.

The Belarusian ambassador to Venezuela, Andrei Molchan, indicated that the joint work strategies between the two nations focus on logistics, transportation, housing and industry. Molchan reaffirmed his government’s commitment to support production in Venezuela, as evidenced by Belarus’ work in the reactivation of the Santa Inés Industrial Complex.

Minister of Production, José Gregorio Biomorgi, detailed that 30 tractors have already been assembled with many more to come. “This is an example of the resistance and resilience shown by the working class in Venezuela (…) We have been able to reactivate this productive space and we will progressively strengthen it throughout the year,” said the Minister.
