He’s the creative force behind Melrose Place, Sex and The City, and Emily in Paris, but Darren Star also brought us the brilliant show Younger.

Darren Star, an American screenwriter and producer, is known for his work on several popular series featuring vibrant, quirky characters that audiences love or love to hate.

In 2015, Darren Star made a comeback with Younger, a series based on the novel of the same name by Pamela Redmond Satran. The show contains all the elements he’s fond of: a refreshing female lead, a socially relevant theme (ageism in this case), a mix of comedy, and a dash of queer culture.

The story follows a mother from New Jersey who finds herself suddenly single and decides to lie about her age to improve her job prospects. With a bit of luck and makeup, she successfully passes herself off as twenty years younger.

To cast his main heroine, Star didn’t have to look far. He chose Sutton Foster, a well-known American musical theatre actress and singer:

“When I met her, I was actually surprised she was indeed 40. It was crucial for me to cast someone who wasn’t around 35 but truly the age of the character.

She convincingly plays a 26-year-old on screen and appears timeless. It’s not just about looks; it’s also about the confidence she exudes.”

The rest of the Younger cast is equally impressive: those who grew up watching the Disney Channel series Lizzie McGuire were thrilled to see Hilary Duff, who plays Liza’s (Foster) best friend. Nico Tortorella (Scream 4), Debi Mazar (Entourage), and Miriam Shor (Sex and the City) round out this glamorous ensemble.
