Currently starring in season 5 of “Emily in Paris” (Netflix), actress Michèle Laroque has shared some intriguing details about a missed opportunity in the United States.
She is the most unexpected yet hilariously entertaining guest star of season 5 of “Emily in Paris,” now streaming on Netflix. Michèle Laroque joined the cast of this quintessentially French series set in America, portraying Yvette, a long-lost friend of Sylvie (played by Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu).
The pair reunites after 20 years, reminiscing about their youth. As close as ever, they delivered scenes filled with both hilarity and emotion, while sparking conversations about the sexuality of older women.
“I told her I wanted to be in the show”
Although this is the French star’s first role in an American production, she recently revealed in an interview with Télé 7 Jours that she could have been part of another major series: Grey’s Anatomy.
“After the film Ma vie en rose won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film, I got a lot of attention from Americans. I had a manager there who was good friends with Betsy Beers, the producer of Grey’s Anatomy. Betsy loved Ma vie en rose. We were very close. One day, I told her I wanted to act in the series.
The way American productions operate is quite unique: guest stars are often hired just a week before filming starts. At that time, I wasn’t living in the US anymore, so it wasn’t feasible. That’s their way of working. For Emily in Paris, I was also hired a week before the first day of shooting.”
Unfortunately for us, there’s little chance that Michèle Laroque will appear in season 6 of Emily in Paris, which has not yet been ordered by Netflix (Sylvie unknowingly got involved with her son). However, her role in one of Netflix’s most popular series might just reopen the doors to Hollywood for her.
