After 4 Years, Superhero Saga Sequel Set to Begin Filming Soon!

Available for just a few more days on Netflix, this movie, led by one of today’s most popular actors, will soon have a sequel, with filming expected to start shortly.

The cinematic iterations of Batman have been diverse and distinct. Just a few years after Christopher Nolan’s acclaimed trilogy featuring Christian Bale as the Dark Knight, a new take on the superhero’s universe emerged in the late 2010s.

The Definitive Batman!

Directed by Zack Snyder as part of the so-called Snyderverse, these films, more focused on action, featured Ben Affleck portraying a more physical version of the character in a fierce rivalry with Henry Cavill’s Superman. By 2021, another fresh portrayal was introduced in a reboot by Matt Reeves.

This film, simply titled The Batman, stars Robert Pattinson and blends elements of the Dark Knight from the Nolan trilogy with the Snyderverse Batman. It was a hit both critically and at the box office, and plans for a sequel were announced shortly after its theater release.

A New Batman is Coming to the DC Universe Soon

However, four years later, The Batman II has yet to start filming. This delay is partly due to the writers’ strike that paralyzed Hollywood in 2023, as well as the DC franchise reboot initiated in 2022 by director James Gunn and producer Peter Safran, which truly began with the Superman movie starring David Corenswet in 2025.

A new actor will soon be cast as Batman (the fourth in twenty years!), making his debut in the upcoming film The Brave and the Bold. However, this does not at all affect the continuation of The Batman series. In fact, Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight will not be part of the connected DC universe, similar to Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker.

The Batman 2: What We Know (Spoiler: Not Much)

No plot details have leaked yet, so it’s unclear which of Batman’s foes will appear in the sequel. It has been confirmed that Pattinson will return, along with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon.

Colin Farrell (who reprised his role as the Penguin in a spin-off mini-series) and Barry Keoghan (as the Joker) might return, but Zoë Kravitz’s Catwoman will not. New potential additions to the cast include Sebastian Stan and Scarlett Johansson, though their participation has not been confirmed.

Filming is set to begin in June, with the release not scheduled until 2028. In the meantime, fans of The Batman can catch the first installment on Netflix until April 17th.
