Trouble is brewing for the Laumière family in “Un Si Grand Soleil.” While family relations seemed calm, Boris (Jules Bahloul) dropped a bombshell a few weeks ago by announcing his upcoming marriage to Muriel and his plans to adopt little Toma.

Catherine (Smadi Wolfman), of course, saw this in a negative light. The businesswoman is pulling out all stops to prevent the wedding scheduled for July 3rd.

At the Monte-Carlo Television Festival, AlloCiné caught up with Smadi Wolfman to get insights into Catherine’s mindset and discuss what her character is willing to do to protect her son.

Currently, Catherine is back to her scheming ways. She’s trying to stop Boris’s wedding and the adoption of Toma. Why can’t she trust her son and believe that his relationship with Muriel is legitimate?

Smadi Wolfman: Catherine doesn’t trust them because she can spot people like Muriel a mile away. She learned from the father of her children. In real life, I love Lou Kuma Kudi, who plays Muriel, but Catherine senses opportunism.

She detects those who are after security for their children and are attracted to money. So even though Boris seems happy, she remains sceptical. He’s still young and has a lot of growing up to do. And for Catherine, he will always be her little boy.

She is very maternal and wants her children to stay close to her. And with Muriel, things just don’t click, and I think she’s right. I am not wrong about my diagnosis.

In a previous episode, Catherine asked Claudine about her options to stop the adoption. One option was to prove Boris was unfit to be a father. Is she really capable of tarnishing her son’s image to stop the adoption?

I believe Catherine is capable of many things. She’s a woman who isn’t afraid to go all the way. But her primary value remains the family. And in what’s to come, it’s not Catherine who will be the worst.

So I don’t think she would go that far. Catherine has a strong family value, and that’s also her weakness. She isn’t mean for the sake of being mean; she does it for what she believes is the well-being of her children.

We also see that Laurine doesn’t want to engage in her games and stop the wedding. Will this also create tension between her and Catherine?

Laurine is the one who resembles Catherine the most. She’s a witch like her mother (laughs). But there will be tension between them because Laurine has learned well. She’s not afraid to go all the way, and since she doesn’t have children, the family value might be less important to her…

The wedding is set for July 3rd. Will she manage to stop it? And will she succeed in allying with Eve?

When it’s not about her family, Catherine spares no effort. So yes, she will go all the way with Eve. She will genuinely try to stop the wedding. What I can tell you is that she won’t be present at the ceremony, which is huge. She will go all the way, but unfortunately, she cannot stop the wedding. Muriel is very strong!

Catherine is now associated with Guillaume Sérignan. Will she be outsmarted, or has she found an opponent worthy of her?

Catherine goes from one business blunder to another. And I think that with Guillaume Sérignan, she’s stumbled yet again. But yes, with him, you could say she’s met her match.

He does the dirty work for her. Catherine is a high-class aristocrat who doesn’t want to get her hands dirty. So she uses him, and so far, all is well.

The relationship has been calm with Elisabeth for a while. Will this last? Could the wedding stir up tensions?

No, because Catherine isn’t at the wedding, so she doesn’t know what’s happening there. I think, for now, the relations between them are calm. They put on a good show for the business. But after everything that’s happened between them, I don’t think it could ever return to how it was when they were good friends.

Will Catherine find love again?

I hope so. I want Catherine to fall in love. And maybe this time, she will make the right choices. But for now, in the scripts I’ve read, it’s not yet on the cards for her. If she did fall in love, it might make her a bit less harsh with her children.

Catherine is a big romantic. She wants to experience more beautiful love stories. And I think it’s great that in “Un Si Grand Soleil,” they show that there’s still life possible for women who have passed fifty. So I really hope that’s what the writers have in store for Catherine.

“Un Si Grand Soleil” is soon to reach the symbolic milestone of 2,000 episodes. What does this mean for you?

I wasn’t there from the start; I joined the show in its third year. Working on “Un Si Grand Soleil” is truly a blessing because we have fabulous roles written by a talented group of writers.

Working on a serial is also great training for young actors because once you’ve done daily episodes, you can do anything. “Un Si Grand Soleil” is a major operation, and I’m proud to be part of it.

What awaits the Laumière clan in the coming months?

The great thing about “Un Si Grand Soleil” is that anything can happen to us. The worst as well as the best. And that’s especially true for the Laumière family, because we go to extremes. Anything is possible, and that’s what’s fantastic.
