Emma Stone Returns to Rom-Coms Post-La La Land, But Without Ryan Gosling!

Currently in the running for her third Oscar, Emma Stone has several projects underway, including a romantic comedy directed by her husband Dave McCary, which has just secured its leading man.

While developing a film about one of the most iconic Muppets, Miss Piggy, with her close friend Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone is also gearing up for a return to the romantic comedy scene, a genre she shined in with “Crazy Stupid Love” in 2011 alongside Ryan Gosling. However, this time it’s not the actor from “La La Land” she will be falling in love with, but Chris Pine.

Deadline reports that the actor, not seen in French cinemas since “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” in 2023, is in talks to join her on this project titled “The Catch,” details of which are still under wraps. This will be the second feature film directed by Dave McCary, who is Emma Stone’s husband, following “Brigsby Bear,” which delighted the Critics’ Week at Cannes in 2017.

Is Filming on the Horizon?

According to Deadline, Emma Stone had been considering various projects to follow up last year’s “Bugonia,” which might earn her a third Best Actress Oscar in March, but the latest script version of “The Catch” by Patrick Kang and Michael Levin swayed her decision towards this romcom.

Several stars had shown interest in the role of her co-star, but it was the hero of the 2012 action romantic comedy “Target” who caught the attention of the producers, including Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine), Emma Stone, and Dave McCary. Before reuniting with the beloved actress of Yórgos Lánthimos, Chris Pine will be seen in the science fiction comedy “Alpha Gang” alongside Cate Blanchett, Léa Seydoux, and Dave Bautista.
