Actor Colman Domingo is keen on penning a screenplay for a live-action Disney film based on the storyline of “The Princess and the Frog,” which debuted in 2009.
While Disney’s live-action version of “Moana, the Legend of the Ends of the Earth” has experienced a slower-than-expected start, earning $178 million globally after its second weekend, Disney continues to develop its live-action adaptations. The studio is now preparing a new project inspired by “The Princess and the Frog.”
A Fresh Narrative
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Colman Domingo is in talks to co-write the screenplay focused on Princess Tiana, the heroine of “The Princess and the Frog,” alongside director Robert O’Hara, a Tony Award nominee. However, this will not be a live-action remake of the animated classic by John Musker and Ron Clements, but rather a new story inspired by its world.
Oscar Recognition
Released in 2009, “The Princess and the Frog” follows Tiana, an ambitious young woman who dreams of opening her own restaurant in New Orleans. In an attempt to help a prince who has been turned into a frog regain his human form, she finds herself under a similar spell.
A two-time Oscar-nominated actor, Colman Domingo has recently made his mark in “Michael,” “Disclosure Day,” and in the series “The Four Seasons” and “Euphoria,” earning him two Emmy Award nominations.
At this point, no deal has been finalized between Disney and Colman Domingo, and no release date has been set for this project.
