Did you catch “Toy Story 5” but leave before the post-credits scene? No worries, we’ve got you covered!
Seven years after “Toy Story 4,” which was Pixar’s highest-grossing film at the box office, raking in $1.07 billion, the fifth installment is now playing in theaters.
Directed by Andrew Stanton, who co-wrote the previous movie and directed “Finding Nemo,” “Finding Dory,” and “Wall-E,” this new chapter sees the beloved toys facing their toughest adversary yet: screens.
Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Jessie, and the rest of the gang find their purpose questioned when they encounter Lilypad, a frog-shaped educational tablet packed with cutting-edge technology. Lilypad comes with strong opinions about what’s best for children’s happiness.
After four films focusing on the escapades of Woody and Buzz, this fifth entry shifts the spotlight to cowgirl Jessie. She attempts to help young Bonnie make a real friend, providing an opportunity to delve deeper into Jessie’s backstory, established since “Toy Story 2.”
What’s in the Post-Credits Scene?
True to form, the studio included a post-credits scene at the end of “Toy Story 5,” following the song “I Knew It, I Knew You” performed by Taylor Swift. Missed it? Don’t fret, here’s what happens!
The scene starts with a school bus dropping off a swarm of children at a school. One little boy sits isolated on a bench while his peers play. Soon, a “next-gen” Buzz Lightyear toy (complete with Wi-Fi and drone-like flying capabilities) lands beside him.
The boy begins to play and gradually integrates with the group. At this moment, more next-gen Buzz Lightyear toys appear, each child receiving one. Nearby, another boy pulls a Zurg toy—Buzz’s arch-nemesis and father—from his backpack.
A Scene Directly Connected to the Film’s Opening
This scene echoes the opening sequence and the conclusion of “Toy Story 5.” The movie starts with a scene focused on the Buzz toys. A ship carrying new generation toys crashes on a small island offshore. The Buzz toys wake up and start searching for their purpose, until one of them, looking at the stars, declares: “Star Commander.” The Buzz army then embarks on an adventure, eventually finding Jessie, who now holds Woody’s sheriff star.
In the final sequence, the Buzz toys meet Woody and Buzz, and the latter explains that their true mission is to make children happy. They then set out to find young owners, as revealed in the post-credits scene.
This scene ties directly back to the movie and does not seem to set the stage for new adventures, unlike, for example, the post-credits scene from “Zootopia 2.”
“Toy Story 5” is currently available in theaters.
