In January, Donald Trump appointed Sylvester Stallone, Jon Voight, and Mel Gibson as “special ambassadors” of Hollywood, a role initially seen as ceremonial in what the American President described as a “very troubled” industry. However, Jon Voight, Angelina Jolie’s father, has taken this role seriously.

According to the American media outlet Deadline, the 86-year-old Oscar-winning actor for his 1979 role in “Coming Home” met with various union representatives, including the Directors Guild of America, as well as studio executives to discuss the challenges facing domestic film production.

100% Tariff on Foreign Films (Including American Movies Shot Abroad)…

Following his report, Donald Trump decided to impose a 100% tariff on foreign films. In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, the American president stated, “The American film industry is dying very quickly. Other countries offer all kinds of incentives to lure our filmmakers and studios away from the United States.

Hollywood and many other areas in the United States are devastated. This is a concerted effort by other nations and, consequently, a threat to national security.”

He added: “This is also about messages and propaganda! Therefore, I am authorizing the Department of Commerce and the U.S. Trade Representative to start the process of instituting a 100% tariff on all films that enter our country and are produced abroad. WE WANT MOVIES PRODUCED IN AMERICA, AGAIN!”

It is still unclear what the conditions for the application of these tariffs will be. This announcement affects foreign films, but also American films shot abroad, like many Marvel productions that benefit from tax credits in various countries.
