Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Oplin and Tyler Gillett, “Ready or Not,” also known as Wedding Nightmare internationally, debuted in theaters in 2019. This horror-comedy starring Samara Weaving was a hit, earning $57.6 million worldwide on a $6 million budget. A sequel is currently in the works.

According to Deadline, Kathryn Newton has joined Samara Weaving in the cast of Ready or Not 2. Her role is still under wraps, as details about the plot remain confidential.

Kathryn Newton is known for her role as Sammy in “Abigail,” another horror film by Matt Bettinelli-Oplin and Tyler Gillett, released in 2024. She also played Cassie Lang in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” (2023). Her filmography includes titles like “Paranormal Activity 4” (2012), “Lady Bird” (2017), “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” (2017), “Blockers” (2018), “Pokémon Detective Pikachu” (2019), “Freaky” (2020), and “Lisa Frankenstein” (2024).

What Else Do We Know About the Sequel?

Matt Bettinelli-Oplin and Tyler Gillett, who also directed Scream (2022) and Scream VI (2023), are returning to direct Ready or Not 2, along with the original film’s screenwriters, Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy. Busick and Murphy will also serve as executive producers for the project.

As a reminder, the first installment follows a young bride (Samara Weaving) who joins her new husband’s (Mark O’Brien) wealthy and eccentric family (Adam Brody, Henry Czerny, and Andie MacDowell) in an ancient tradition that turns into a deadly game where everyone fights for their survival.

The release date for Ready or Not 2 has not yet been announced. In the meantime, the first film is available for streaming on Netflix, Prime Video, and Disney+.
