Netflix Boss Teams Up with “À bout” Star for Exciting New Movie!

Tyler Perry joins forces with Taraji P. Henson in “Why Did I Get Married Again?” as the original cast reunites for the sequel, this time on Netflix.

Tyler Perry, a billionaire Hollywood mogul with an estimated fortune of $1.4 billion according to Forbes, has been a dominant force in Hollywood for years with his array of film and TV productions. Since late 2023, he has secured a deal with Netflix to produce eight movies over four years. Following the recent success of the drama “A Fall From Grace,” he is now gearing up for the third installment of the comedy-drama “Why Did I Get Married?”, originally released in 2007.

According to Deadline, Tyler Perry has finalized the cast for “Why Did I Get Married Again?” which he will produce for Netflix. Returning are his favorite actress Taraji P. Henson, and also Jill Scott, Richard T. Jones, Tasha Smith, Michael Jai White, Lamman Rucker, Sharon Leal, Armani Greer, Everett Osborne, Da’Vinchi, Laya Deleon Hayes, Jaden Michael, Charles L. Smith, Derrick A. King, and Sydney Winbush.

What is “Why Did I Get Married?” About?

Based on Perry’s original play produced in 2003, the first film follows four married couples, close friends who meet once a year for a week-long vacation. Ostensibly, these getaways are meant to relax and bring them closer, but they quickly turn into a crucible that exposes the cracks in their relationships.

In the sequel, “Why Did I Get Married Too?” (2010), the four couples gather for their annual vacation, assessing their respective marriages. Despite being on a tropical island where everything should be idyllic, they each question their unions, facing emotional, financial, and physical challenges…

Tyler Perry in the Cast

Not satisfied with just producing, writing, and directing, Tyler Perry has also decided to step in front of the camera. He will play one of the eight college friends who face challenges in their marriages during their annual gatherings.

This time, the couples reunite to celebrate the wedding of Marcus’s (Michael Jai White) and Angela’s (Tasha Smith) daughter. Having been apart for a while, they quickly realize that even though things have changed, they are still the same. As they see their children grown up and turning into versions of themselves, they must reflect on the example they’ve set and ask themselves that perennial question: why did they get married… again?

Last July, Perry hinted that the third installment was finally in the works by posting a draft script cover on his Instagram, captioned “I’m just going to leave this here!“. Perry also prominently tagged the main actors from the franchise, including Janet Jackson, although the music legend was not mentioned in the official announcement made this Wednesday.
