Matilda is no ordinary little girl. Gifted with extraordinary intelligence and special powers, she spends her early years devouring every page of every book she can get her hands on. Unfortunately, her parents are glued to their TV screen and are nothing like her. Her father, Harry, a used car salesman, and her mother, Zinnia, a compulsive gambler, show her nothing but disdain.

The day she starts school, a joyful occasion that finally allows her to escape her family, Matilda is over the moon. However, her excitement cools down a bit when she meets the school’s principal: the dreadful Agatha Trunchbull.
