On the set of this family comedy, Schwarzie forgot his lines… And it’s all Danny DeVito’s fault!
A Rollicking Family Comedy
In the 1990s, a friendly rivalry brewed between Stallone and Schwarzenegger. Despite their friendship, both muscle-bound icons were eager to dominate the family comedy scene, a genre beloved in the nineties. Stallone starred in “Oscar” and “Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot!” while Arnold Schwarzenegger became a household name with his box-office hits during the Christmas season, including “Jingle All The Way,” “Kindergarten Cop,” and “Junior,” all directed by Ivan Reitman.
In this 1994 comedy, Schwarzenegger found himself in a scenario reminiscent of Marcello Mastroianni in “The Most Important Event Since Man Walked on the Moon”: he was pregnant! He shared the screen with other big names of that era: Emma Thompson and notably, Danny DeVito, who cooked up some incredible meals during lunch breaks.
Crowded Set Shenanigans
Back on set, the former bodybuilder struggled to remember his lines. Could it be the fault of the delicious pasta dishes prepared by his co-star? Or perhaps it was the result of a cigar encouraged by DeVito, who played the Penguin? A lover of fine cigars, DeVito pulled a schoolboy prank on the future Governor of California by secretly adding a bit of cannabis to the cigar intended for his colleague. Unsuspectingly, the Austrian indulged in the laughter-inducing cigar, only to find himself stupefied in front of a baffled crew who were unaware of the not-so-legal prank orchestrated by the mischievous Danny DeVito.
