Clément Massy (Eden) Honored to Cover Hit Song: Inside the Series’ Biggest Track!

Everything for the Light is now streaming on Netflix! To celebrate the launch of this highly anticipated series, the team at AlloCiné got a chance to speak with Clément Massy, who portrays the character Éden. Here are some exclusive insights!

Everything for the Light has finally hit Netflix! After months of anticipation, four episodes of this daily series are now available on the popular platform. During the launch, AlloCiné’s editorial team visited the set and met with Clément Massy.

A crossover talent from season 13 of The Voice, Massy, who brings the character of Éden to life, opened up about his first foray into acting and his musical performance in the series, covering Grégory Lemarchal’s song “Écris l’histoire.”

AlloCiné: What attracted you to this project?

Clément Massy (Éden): I was drawn to this project because I was approached with a character that seemed tailor-made for me. The character is a composer, a writer, and plays the piano, guitar, and percussion. He’s practically a complete musician, and that really appealed to me.

I’ve always been keen on developing my acting skills. Until recently, I was studying to be an interior designer in Paris, but my lifelong passion for music caught up with me. I started with The Voice season 13 and then was offered Everything for the Light. It’s all quite new to me!

What can you tell us about the character Éden that you play?

I absolutely enjoy playing Éden. He’s an extremely gentle guy who wholeheartedly supports his friends. It’s very enjoyable to play someone like that. He has a radiant quality, yet you’ll see, his life gets quite complicated early in the series. The character is like a blank slate, which means there’s a lot of freedom to shape him. That’s just amazing.

How is it working with Gilles Cohen, who plays your on-screen father, Joël?

It’s incredible. It can be quite intimidating to receive an intense look from Gilles during our scenes. We have some tough father-son scenes. I had forgotten all about his previous work, especially his role in The Bureau of Legends. It’s fantastic and wonderful to act alongside him.

These seasoned actors offer advice, which is incredibly enriching for a young actor like me. I’m starting to find my footing in music, and I know what I’m doing there, but acting is still very new to me.

You’re making your debut as an actor and in a daily series. How are you handling the intense filming schedule?

Let’s be honest, the pace is insane. Usually, we shoot about seven sequences a day. Especially on full days, that’s the norm. Occasionally, we face very intense sequences that require deep emotional engagement and intricate staging.

I never thought I’d do something like this. I was even surprised when I learned about Eden’s arcs and what I would have to portray. It’s incredibly rich. But being surrounded by actors who know exactly what they’re doing is very reassuring because it allows for freedom to try things and know you’ll be supported.

Are you preparing for the potential fame that might come with the show’s release?

I try not to think about it too much as I’m quite down to earth. Even The Voice didn’t change much for me. A bit on the internet, but that’s just online. If it works out, great. If it resonates with people, even better.

In any case, I feel fortunate. I was already given a chance once with The Voice and almost made it to the end. And now, being offered this second opportunity is very rewarding.

You also sing a hit by Grégory Lemarchal, Écris l’histoire…

I’ve been entrusted with a cornerstone of French music with Écris l’histoire. It’s already an honor! It was my sister’s favorite song when she was little, so I heard it thousands of times. And when they talked about me performing it, it definitely moved me. Especially since what Éden is trying to do is to write his own story.

The lyrics align so well with his experiences. He doesn’t know what’s expected of him, just like Grégory sang. I see a risky parallel, but for me, it’s an honor to be offered this role.

The first four episodes of Everything for the Light are now available on Netflix, and the daily show starts from June 16th on TF1 and will be replayed on the TF1+ platform!
