Epic Sci-Fi Crossover Almost Happened: Star Wars Meets Star Trek!

It’s the science fiction crossover that fans have been waiting for, but they will have to wait a while longer before it happens… The creators of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Doctor Who put in considerable effort to bring together the heroes from both shows. While such a crossover has occurred in comics and novels, it has never happened on television.

Showrunners from Both Series Agreed

The fourth season of Strange New Worlds boldly referenced “a time-traveling adventurer” with companions, clearly describing the Doctor, especially since his spaceship – the Tardis, which looks like a police box – also appeared in the background.

However, many fans may not know that the character almost made a live appearance in the Star Trek series! During an interview with Radio Times, Akiva Goldsman revealed that he tried everything to include the Doctor, supported by Russell T. Davies, the showrunner of Doctor Who.

The Future of Both Franchises is Uncertain

“We said, ‘OK, let’s do a crossover,’ and we started working on it. But there were many significant people who told us no. Which I understand,” the American writer stated. In the past, Russell T. Davies mentioned that only fan mobilization could make this unique crossover project a reality.

While we don’t want to completely dash the hopes of fans, a meeting of the two universes now seems unlikely. The next season of Strange New Worlds will be its last, and thereafter there will be no ongoing Star Trek series. As for Doctor Who, it is currently airing while the production searches for a new showrunner and a new actor to play the Doctor.
