She rose to fame with the sci-fi film “Armageddon” and as Arwen in “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy. Here’s an update on actress Liv Tyler.
A star in the sci-fi blockbuster Armageddon alongside Ben Affleck and Bruce Willis, and unforgettable as Arwen in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Liv Tyler was one of the most recognizable faces of the 90s and early 2000s before gradually disappearing from the screen. Here’s what the American actress has been up to.
Her breakout role came in 1996 with Bernardo Bertolucci’s Stealing Beauty. Soon after, the American actress, who first caught the public’s eye in the Aerosmith music video for “Crazy” (fronted by her father, Steven Tyler), appeared in Tom Hanks’ That Thing You Do!. However, it was her role in the 1998 sci-fi film Armageddon, where she played the daughter of Bruce Willis and the love interest of Ben Affleck, that catapulted her to international stardom.
Tyler’s career quickly accelerated, landing her the role of Arwen in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, a truly iconic part. Though her appearances became less frequent, they remained significant. She starred in the 2008 film The Incredible Hulk (joining the ranks of stars who have been in both Marvel films and The Lord of the Rings) and the TV series The Leftovers.
Continuing to choose her roles selectively, Tyler worked under the direction of James Gray in the sci-fi movie Ad Astra, starring Brad Pitt, and in the first season of the TV series 9-1-1: Lone Star. She left the show in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic and moved back to London, where her partner and their children live.
Five Years Away and a Marvel Comeback
Following her unexpected departure from 9-1-1: Lone Star in 2020, Liv Tyler completely vanished from the public eye, leaving many fans wondering about her prolonged absence. The reason was simple: she chose to prioritize her family life.
After a five-year hiatus, Tyler returned to the spotlight this year, reprising her role as Betty Ross, nearly 17 years after The Incredible Hulk, in Captain America: Brave New World. “I took a break from work these past few years, I was at home with my kids,” she told Extra, comments reported by the site Celebrity Nine.
Now 48, Tyler reflected: “It was such a delightful way, after the Covid-19 pandemic and everything else, to return to something so special. It was kind of the perfect way to remind myself how much I love acting.” Does this imply we’ll see more of her on screen soon? While the future remains uncertain, as of now, Tyler is not officially attached to any new projects.
