Most of his fans weren’t even born when the concept for the action film Maelstrom was first developed. Written by Jeffrey Robinov, the screenplay was sold to Warner Bros in 1993, indicating that it would soon hit the big screens. However, things didn’t go as planned.

Picked Up by an Action Cinema Specialist

Having changed hands multiple times and undergone numerous rewrites, Maelstrom is a classic example of a film that’s been in intermittent development with a legendary backstory. After spending over a decade in a drawer, the script has finally been picked up by Jaume Collet-Serra, one of today’s leading action film directors.

Maelstrom tells the story of a federal agent tasked with protecting his own fiancée who is threatened by a cartel. As she enters a witness protection program, they find themselves trapped by a storm that cuts off all communication, forcing them to confront ruthless assassins.

A big name is about to join the project, as talks are underway to secure Alan Ritchson for the lead role in the film. Thanks to the success of his series Reacher on Amazon, the American actor has become a staple in streaming platforms.
