Patrick Schwarzenegger has expressed his eager interest in taking on the iconic role of the golden boy and serial killer Patrick Bateman—originally played by Christian Bale in “American Psycho”—in the new film adaptation currently being developed by Luca Guadagnino.
Having gained recognition from his role in the third season of the hit series The White Lotus, where he plays Saxon, the son of wealthy Timothy Ratliff (played by Jason Isaacs), Patrick Schwarzenegger has revealed his dream of portraying a legendary character in an upcoming film remake. Schwarzenegger recently responded on X to a user who suggested he would be perfect for the role of golden boy Patrick Bateman in the new version of American Psycho, which will be directed by Luca Guadagnino (Call Me by Your Name, Challengers), with a simple yet telling: “Nothing would make me happier.”
I’d love nothing more 😉

This isn’t the first time Patrick Schwarzenegger has shown interest in playing the infamous Wall Street killer. Back in 2024, he commented on the announcement by Variety of Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino taking the helm of the project with an enthusiastic “My dream“. However, by the end of the year, the same media outlet reported that Austin Butler was in talks to take over the role that Christian Bale held in 2000. Yet, nothing has been finalized, leaving room for Schwarzenegger to still hold onto hope.
Not a Remake
First announced in October 2024, Luca Guadagnino’s adaptation of American Psycho will not be a remake of the cult film by Mary Harron, but a reinterpretation of Bret Easton Ellis’s 1991 novel. The screenplay is being penned by Scott Z. Burns (Contagion).
Set in the heart of the Reagan era, the story follows the downfall of Patrick Bateman, a misogynistic, homophobic, and racist Wall Street golden boy who hides a psychopathic personality beneath a smooth and luxurious façade, leading him to commit a series of extraordinarily violent murders.
The film is set to be Guadagnino’s next project since the production of the feature-length Sgt. Rock, which he was supposed to direct for DC this summer, has been put on hold by Warner Bros.
