A Gathering of French Cinema’s New Generation
This film spans two eras and features a host of actors from the new generation like Suzanne Lindon, Abraham Wapler (currently starring in the series “Andor”), Paul Kircher, Vassili Schneider, and Pomme (Claire Pommet, see our interview below). Cédric Klapisch also directs established actors Vincent Macaigne, Julia Piaton, Sara Giraudeau, and recurring stars from his films such as Zinedine Soualem and Cécile de France.
The plot unfolds as follows: In 2025, about thirty relatives learn they are set to inherit an abandoned house that has been neglected for years. Four of them, Seb, Abdel, Céline, and Guy, are tasked with inspecting the property. These distant “cousins” then uncover hidden treasures in this old house. They find themselves following the trail of a mysterious Adèle who left her native Normandy at age 20.
Adèle finds herself in Paris in 1895, a city amidst a cultural and industrial revolution. For the four cousins, this introspective journey into their genealogy leads them to discover this unique period in the late 19th century when photography was being invented and Impressionism was emerging. This confrontation between the years 2025 and 1895 will challenge their present and ideals, narrating the essence of “The Arrival of the Future.”
“The Arrival of the Future” will be released in cinemas on May 22, 2025.
At the Nouvelles Vagues Festival 2023, we had a chance to talk with Cédric Klapsich about the new generation of French cinema.
