Ben Affleck Returns with a Thrilling Netflix Directing Gig, 14 Years After Argo!

Three years after depicting the creation of the iconic Air Jordan sneaker in the film Air on Prime Video, Oscar-winning actor-director Ben Affleck is back in the director’s chair with a new thriller for Netflix titled Animals. This film is part of a long-term collaboration project between the platform and Affleck following Netflix’s $587 million acquisition of his startup, InterPositive.

What is Animals About?

When their son is kidnapped, a Los Angeles mayoral candidate and his wife find themselves caught in a dreadful spiral. As they desperately try to gather the ransom and long-buried lies are suddenly exposed, they are forced to make decisions that could destroy their family and their ambitions.

Animals: Who’s in the Cast?

Continuing his tradition of starring in his directorial projects like Argo, The Town, and Live By Night, Ben Affleck plays the lead role in Animals, in addition to directing the film.

Joining him is a stellar cast including Kerry Washington (Django Unchained), who plays his character’s wife, Steven Yeun (The Rip), and the renowned Gillian Anderson (X-Files, Sex Education) in the role of a fixer specializing in kidnappings.

Ben Affleck: Master of Thrillers?

The Animals trailer immerses us once again in the film genre that director Ben Affleck loves: the crime thriller. It’s hard not to be drawn to the distinctive atmosphere he previously crafted in his heist film The Town, and which he seems to be revisiting here by focusing on a different social class: the political world.
