This is a developing story… Stay tuned for potential updates.
Just one day following the arrest of Luigi Mangione, who is accused of murdering UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, freelance reporter Ken Klippenstein released what he claims is the detailed manifesto of the 26-year-old suspect.
The handwritten manifesto, which was discovered on Mangione at the time of his arrest in Pennsylvania, has been confirmed by the NYPD. Various major news outlets have referenced portions of the document, but none have published it entirely.
Klippenstein expressed frustration on his Substack about the lack of response from major media outlets, including The New York Times, CNN, and ABC, regarding their decision to only selectively quote from the manifesto without releasing it fully.
Klippenstein, known for his previous exposés on figures such as Vice President-elect JD Vance and Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), shared the contents of Mangione’s manifesto, stating:
To the Feds, I’ll be brief because I do respect your role in our nation. To streamline your investigation, I’ll clearly state that I acted alone. This involved simple social engineering, basic CAD skills, and a lot of patience. The spiral notebook might have some scattered notes and to-do lists that sketch the basics. My technology is secure due to my engineering background, so don’t expect much there. I regret any distress or trauma caused, but it had to be done. These parasites deserved it. Remember, the U.S. has the most expensive healthcare system worldwide, yet our life expectancy ranks about 42nd. UnitedHealthcare is one of the largest U.S. companies by market cap, following giants like Apple and Google. It keeps growing while our life expectancy does not. These powers have become too dominant, exploiting our nation for massive profits because we’ve allowed it. The problem is complex, but the core issues of corruption and greed were highlighted long ago by figures like Rosenthal and Moore. It’s no longer about raising awareness but addressing the power dynamics at play. Clearly, I am the first to confront this with such stark honesty.
Common Dreams has not verified the authenticity of these claims independently.
Klippenstein clarified via social media that the manifesto he published is authentic, distinguishing it from other versions circulating online.
NBC News Deputy Technology Editor Ben Goggin confirmed that the language in the manifesto published by Klippenstein aligns with what NBC has recognized as authentic.
Moreover, earlier on Tuesday, Klippenstein disclosed leaked internal talking points that UnitedHealthcare allegedly distributed to its employees amid mounting public backlash.
