Cassandre: Intriguing Trailer Unveiled for Drama Based on True Story

Set for release on April 2, the movie “Cassandre” recently released its first visuals. Billie Blain, Zabou Breitman, Éric Ruf of the Comédie-Française, and Florian Lesieur portray a uniquely dysfunctional family.

An Unconventional Chronicle of Adolescence…

The summer of 1998, in the countryside. Cassandre is 14 years old. In the small family manor, her parents and older brother notice changes in her physique. Fortunately, Cassandre is passionate about horses and spends her vacation at a small equestrian center, where she is embraced like an exotic creature. There, she discovers a different kind of normalcy, gradually pulling her away from the engulfing presence of her family…

Scheduled to hit theaters on April 2, “Cassandre,” directed by Hélène Merlin in her feature debut, unveiled an intriguing trailer. Beneath its guise of a light, even tranquil family saga, the trailer hints at an almost tangible tension lurking within.

Soon, the seemingly close-knit fabric of this ordinary-looking family begins to unravel, exposing its illusory nature. More than just a simple teenage chronicle, this preview sets the stage for a gripping drama driven by the oppressive influence exerted by the young protagonist’s relatives (Billie Blain, known from “Le Règne animal”) on her life.

As these initial images build upon a crescendo of dramatic tension, they also offer a glimpse into the unusual family setting surrounding Cassandre.

While Cassandre’s older brother is portrayed by Florian Lesieur (famous from “Plus belle la vie”), the role of her mother is played by the talented Zabou Breitman. A two-time César nominee for “Best Supporting Actress” for her roles in “La Crise” and “L’Exercice de l’État,” she appears in the trailer as an oppressive and intrusive maternal figure with unexpected and surprising customs.

Lastly, Éric Ruf – the managing director of the Comédie-Française and known from “Les Trois Mousquetaires” – plays a charismatic patriarch, clearly fond of strategy and reflective games.
