Could he be the future James Bond? A fresh candidate has emerged in the running to become the next face of Agent 007, and this rising star might just have what it takes!
On May 15, Amazon MGM Studios announced that they had initiated the casting process to find the new James Bond. Who will take over from Daniel Craig, who has hung up his 007 tuxedo after “No Time to Die”? We should find out soon!
“The search for the next James Bond is underway. While we do not intend to comment on specific details during the casting process, we look forward to sharing more information with 007 fans when the time is right,” the studio stated in a press release shared on social media.
Is He the Next 007?
Following speculation about Jacob Elordi, Callum Turner, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, a new name has been revealed! A relatively unknown actor, Tom Francis, is now considered a strong contender to don the iconic suit of Her Majesty’s secret agent.
According to Variety, this 26-year-old British actor, who stands at an impressive 6’2″, has auditioned for the role. He ticks all the boxes to be the next 007: athletic build, stylish demeanor, and piercing blue eyes. Physically, he’s a blend of Daniel Craig and Jeremy Allen White.
Francis, primarily a stage actor until now, appeared in four episodes of season 5 of “You” as Clayton Angevine. He also had a minor role in the recent George Clooney film “Jay Kelly” and will soon feature in Peter Berg’s “The Mosquito Bowl,” a sports drama set during World War II.
However, Tom Francis is far from a shoo-in! Many candidates will meet with casting director Nina Gold, who took over from Debbie McWilliams. Gold has worked on numerous major productions, including the second Star Wars trilogy, several Jurassic World films, “The Martian,” “Hot Fuzz,” “Hamnet,” and popular series like “Game of Thrones,” “The Crown,” and “Chernobyl.”
Reinventing James Bond
For now, all we know is that the production is seeking a younger actor to ensure a long-term presence for this Bond. The first installment of this new era will be directed by none other than Denis Villeneuve, who has just completed his “Dune” saga. He will now focus on introducing the new face of 007, which is exciting news for fans given the nearly flawless filmography of the Canadian filmmaker.
It is also important to note that the franchise will no longer be overseen by Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, the longstanding figures from EON Productions who have upheld the 007 legacy since the 1990s. Following an agreement in 2025, Amazon MGM Studios has taken over creative control of the series.
Up until now, Broccoli and Wilson maintained a tightly controlled vision of James Bond, favoring exclusive cinematic releases and a relatively spaced production rhythm. In contrast, the American studio is considering a more ambitious and expansive strategy, potentially developing series, spin-offs, and an extended universe akin to current major franchises.
This shift in governance could significantly alter the identity of James Bond, both in its narrative approach and the pace of future projects.
