Revealed last July, details about the sequel to “The Devil Wears Prada” are becoming clearer. While the cast hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, we at least know its theatrical release date.
Beloved by an entire generation, “The Devil Wears Prada” is set to make its cinematic return. Disney has recently scheduled the sequel to this film, which garnered over $326 million in global box office revenue upon its release in 2006, and has since become a cult classic comedy over the years.
The release date has been set for May 1, 2026, a slot initially reserved for “Avengers: Doomsday,” which has been postponed to December 18, 2026 (December 16 in France). In the sequel, we will see Miranda Priestly back in action in the United States. According to Deadline, “The Devil Wears Prada 2” will follow the iconic tyrannical editor-in-chief of a prestigious fashion magazine, played by Meryl Streep, as she navigates the decline of print media.
Cast Confirmation Pending
While no official casting announcements have been made, it is highly anticipated that the original film’s leading trio will return: Meryl Streep, along with Emily Blunt and Anne Hathaway, who have both expressed their excitement about reprising their roles as Miranda’s former assistants. Stanley Tucci is also expected to return as the magazine’s artistic director at Runway.
Aline Brosh McKenna, who penned the screenplay for the original movie, is also writing the sequel, and there are whispers that David Frankel might return as director. It’s now up to Disney to confirm these details, which should be soon given that the release date is just a year away and filming is expected to commence in the coming months.
Mark your calendars for May 2026 to catch “The Devil Wears Prada 2” in theaters.
