Disgraced former President Donald Trump has waged a virtual assault on the American populace. Within a mere fortnight, he has assumed the mantle of a dictator, a persona he seemingly glorified during his campaign. His tool of choice? Unlawful executive orders that he wields like toxic javelins, targeting virtually every federal initiative designed to enhance the health, safety, and economic prosperity of all citizens.
Before a federal court intervened, Trump sought to slash funding for education, housing, nutrition, and healthcare services, including Medicaid, which supports over 80 million children, women, and men, as well as the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). In what seems like a frenzied rampage, he and his team have been flouting legal norms, shredding the Constitution, and sparking lawsuits that, funded by taxpayer dollars, will likely be stalled until they reach a U.S. Supreme Court stacked with his questionable appointees.
The relentless and brutal nature of Trump’s actions, driven by revenge and greed and stemming from his profound narcissism, has left the media struggling to keep pace. His abuses can be categorized into three primary groups:
- The dismantling of the longstanding social safety net, an act amounting to collective homicide. Without essential services like food and healthcare, Americans will face sickness and death, regardless of their political affiliations;
- Omnicide, resulting from his direct closures of federal agencies and cessation of international cooperation on critical issues like climate change (e.g., withdrawing from the Paris climate accords), which exacerbates the severity of natural disasters and undermines efforts in renewable energy in favor of fossil fuels. He also withdrew from the World Health Organization and halted federal initiatives aimed at predicting and preventing deadly pandemics;
- Genocide, by continuing the aggressive policies of former President Joe Biden alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and supporting the displacement of Gaza’s survivors leading to their demise in the desert. These actions are coupled with the censorship and persecution of any dissent.
With his authoritarian supporters poised to lead major federal agencies like the FBI, Trump is cultivating a police state unprecedented in American history since the era of slavery. His administration is also facilitating the growth of private corporate prisons to detain his adversaries.
In collaboration with Elon Musk, Trump’s government is working to revert the civil service to a patronage system. Musk, in a radical move, has proposed offering buyouts to 2 million federal employees, effective through September—a plan both absurd and illegal, influenced by a mega-billionaire who once cautioned against global warming and rogue AI technology.
This strategy represents a purge of seasoned civil servants who are replaced by representatives of the corporate state, signaling a complete corporate takeover of the government with Trump at the helm.
At present, Trump, a failed casino mogul turned President, and his cohort believe they are unbeatable. The Republican-controlled Congress appears subdued. The judiciary, especially at higher levels, seems compromised, and Trump is ready with pardons for any legal challenges. So who will stop him and his rampant supporters?
The answer is The People. Trump’s approval ratings are already tumbling. Despite his threats, not all media will conform to a Fox News model. Reports of suffering and the ruthless chaos inflicted on innocent American families and workers will spark spontaneous resistance, leading to reduced consumer spending amidst rising inflation and the kind of instability that small businesses fear. Even Chambers of Commerce are likely to balk at the diversion of tax revenue from public infrastructure to further military expansion.
All of this underscores that Trump’s actions are profoundly un-American as he boasts about America’s acquisitions like the Panama Canal and Greenland, along with ambitions to annex Canada.
Unless he alters his path, he will be toppled by corruption within his ranks, plummeting approval ratings, resistance from numerous states and their attorneys general, and eventually a Republican Congress that opts for self-preservation over loyalty to Trump.
Recall, during the 1974 Watergate scandal, Republican Senators told President Richard Nixon his time was up, prompting his resignation for significantly fewer offences.
Trump, a man who recognizes no limits and frequently claims he’ll do as he pleases, is governing through increasingly broad and invasive decrees. He would do well to study history.
