From Child Actor to Netflix Star: Discover His Incredible Journey!

“It’s funny to think that my adult career really took off because of this series,” Gabriel Basso shared with us, reflecting on his experiences over the past two years following the launch of The Night Agent on Netflix, the platform’s most-watched show in 2023.

When the 30-year-old actor says “adult,” it’s because he started his career nearly two decades ago.

Nothing predestined him to become an actor. At the age of 4, young Gabriel enjoyed making his sisters rehearse movie lines, who themselves dreamed of making a name in the film industry. As he grew up, the boy developed the same passion and asked his parents if he could act in commercials.

By the age of 15, his acting career was officially underway. After appearances in iCarly, The Mysteries of Eastwick, and The Middle, the budding actor landed his first role in a feature film.

Friend of Moon

In 2009, Gabriel Basso starred in Alabama Moon, an American drama never released in France, adapted from a novel by Watt Key that won about twenty awards. Featuring Jimmy Bennett and John Goodman, the film is told from the perspective of Moon, an 11-year-old boy raised away from civilization. After the sudden death of his father, he must learn to live in the modern world.

Gabriel Basso plays Hal, one of Moon’s new friends. With his cherubic face and long hair, it’s hard to recognize the actor from The Night Agent. This first role opened the door to other projects, like the series Big C, in which he acted for two seasons.

Then came the sci-fi blockbuster Super 8 directed by J.J. Abrams. Once again, it’s hard to recognize the actor who by then had matured significantly. He played a movie buff who, along with his friends, investigates a series of strange events in their town.

Although Gabriel Basso has continued his career and found renewed success through Netflix, the thirty-something does not want to continue in this field. This nature, music, and drawing enthusiast now prefers to have a job that is meaningful, rather than merely entertaining audiences around the world.
