Game of Thrones Movie in the Works, Penned by Top Sci-Fi Series Writer!

Fans have been dreaming about it, and Warner Bros. is set to make it happen: the “Game of Thrones” universe is expected to transition from television to the big screen with a movie about Aegon the Conqueror written by the “Andor” screenwriter.

Aegon I Targaryen, long referenced in “Game of Thrones” and its spin-offs, was the first to rule from the Iron Throne after conquering six of the Seven Kingdoms during the Conquest of Westeros. His story is now set to be brought to life on screen.

Two Ventures, One Iconic Figure

The portrayal could happen in a series (it has been known since last October that screenwriter Mattson Tomlin is working closely with George R.R. Martin on such a project) or on film. Indeed, the Hollywood Reporter recently revealed that alongside the television series for HBO, Warner is actively developing a film about this legendary ancestor of Daenerys.

Envisioned as a blockbuster on the scale of “Dune,” the film does not yet have a director. However, according to Page Six, the script is being penned by Beau Willimon, the creator of “House of Cards” and one of the writers of the acclaimed Star Wars series, “Andor.” Willimon has reportedly already submitted an initial draft of the script to the studio executives, who loved it!

What About Warner’s Acquisition by Paramount?

It’s important to note that Warner Bros. is on the verge of being acquired by Paramount Skydance, which could potentially slow down or halt this project. However, the Hollywood Reporter has indicated that Paramount CEO David Ellison recently mentioned “Game of Thrones” as his favorite HBO series. This bodes well for the future of the franchise, which has other spin-offs in development as well.
