Is Liam Neeson Done with Action Movies? Fans May Be Disappointed!

Since “Taken,” Liam Neeson has been a staple of the action film genre, but it appears the actor is nearing the end of an era. He explains why.

In the popular imagination, Liam Neeson is the quintessential action film hero. His rise in this genre began with the 2008 hit “Taken,” produced by Luc Besson, after which he frequently returned to similar roles, perhaps at the risk of being typecast. However, this chapter is drawing to a close, according to Neeson himself.

The star has declared his intention to quit action films by the end of 2025. In a discussion featured in People Magazine, he cites age as a compelling reason. “I’m 72 years old,” he remarks. “It has to end sometime. You can’t keep fooling the audience. I don’t want Mark doing my action scenes for me.”

Mark” refers to Mark Vanselow, Neeson’s longtime stunt double who has worked with him on many films. While Neeson is eyeing the end of 2025 for his retirement from action films, fans need not worry: several more movies have been filmed and are set to be released until that crucial time.

Action Icon for 16 Years

It has been sixteen years since “Taken” premiered, and during that time, Liam Neeson has starred in over twenty action movies, including “Non-Stop,” “Run All Night,” “The Commuter,” “Blacklight,” “Memory,” and more recently “Retribution” — not to mention “Taken 2” and “Taken 3.”

However, Neeson has also continued to explore dramatic roles concurrently, appearing in films such as Martin Scorsese’s “Silence,” Steve McQueen’s “Widows,” and J.A. Bayona’s “A Monster Calls.”
