Arco, an animated gem and winner of the 2025 Feature Film Crystal, is a must-see in theaters with your family during the holiday season.
What if rainbows were actually time travelers? That’s the intriguing premise of Arco, a new animated film by director Ugo Bienvenu. After its successful premieres at the Cannes and Annecy festivals, this charming sci-fi drama was awarded the Crystal for Best Feature at the FIFA 2025.
Set in a dystopian future where natural disasters are rampant, Arco is a 10-year-old who can travel through time. He finds himself lost in the year 2075, near the home of a young girl named Iris. She decides to help him find his way back home. However, their plans are threatened by a trio of crooks fascinated by supernatural phenomena.
An Award-Winning Animation Gem at Annecy
A product of the expertise of Remembers and MountainA studios, Arco is as well-crafted as it is beautiful to behold. With a wide range of settings, the film takes you through lush forests, enchanting skies, and high-tech homes.
Featuring delicate and unique 2D animation, the colorful and dynamic world created by Ugo Bienvenu and his team easily captivates. The adventures of our young heroes and the futuristic setting are enhanced by the talent of French animators, with the support of actress Natalie Portman as a producer.
A Universal Story for the Whole Family
Often compared to Steven Spielberg’s masterpiece E.T. for its unusual friendship between characters from different worlds, and to various Hayao Miyazaki’s Ghibli films for its ecological themes, Arco excels in entertaining while carrying a strong and relevant message.
This touching fable, appealing to audiences of all ages, subtly invites us to maintain hope even when the future looks bleak. Its intergenerational story, filled with laughter and tears, makes it a must-watch this fall, best experienced on the big screen with family.
The film has been available in theaters since Wednesday, October 22. It’s an unmissable event for the All Saints’ Day holidays.
