Nathan Fillion has been sparking the curiosity of “Firefly” fans on social media for days. After much anticipation, the actor (now a star of “The Rookie”) reveals what he and his former co-stars are up to!
The big news has finally been announced! For several days on social media, actor Nathan Fillion has been teasing a major revelation about the series “Firefly,” where he starred in the early 2000s. In videos featuring him with his former fictional crewmates, he appears to confirm the return of the character Malcolm Reynolds and his companions to our screens…
“Firefly” Returns!
Eager to learn more, “Firefly” fans now know what the star and the rest of the cast are planning: Nathan Fillion and his colleagues will reprise their roles by lending their voices to their former characters… in an animated “Firefly” series! The storyline will take place between the end of the first (and only) season and the concluding movie, “Serenity: The Final Rebellion” (released in 2005).
Remember, Nathan Fillion played Captain Malcolm Reynolds, who struggled to survive with his crew aboard the spaceship Serenity, amidst a civil war that allowed the Union of Planets to dominate space… In this perilous universe, these rebels together undertook missions regardless of the law.
Nathan Fillion and His Crew Are Back!
In “Firefly,” along with Nathan Fillion (who now headlines “The Rookie: The Cop from Los Angeles”), were actors Gina Torres, Jewel Staite, Morena Baccarin, Sean Maher, Summer Glau, and Alan Tudyk. All will participate in this animated series!
Joss Whedon (the creator of “Firefly,” who is also the creator of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”) is not involved in this comeback. However, Nathan Fillion notes that Whedon has given his blessing to allow this new version of the project to go forward. For now, the animated series is still in the development stage and has not yet been purchased (by a platform or otherwise). Stay tuned!
