In just a few days, the new season of this Netflix series has become the most watched worldwide!
It didn’t take long to confirm whether the second season of The Gentlemen would be a hit. Already renewed for a third season, Guy Ritchie’s series made a grand comeback on Netflix on September 4, after just over two years of waiting (a quite reasonable delay for a streaming production).
Hit or Miss: Netflix Subscribers Decide
According to FlixPatrol, in just five days, the series clinched the top spot on Netflix in 49 countries, including France. More broadly, the second season of The Gentlemen is in the Top 10 in 88 different countries. We will soon have the viewership numbers, which will be interesting to compare with those of the first season.
The series is an adaptation of the 2019 movie featuring Matthew McConaughey and Colin Farrell; however, it is neither a sequel nor a spin-off, but rather a simple extension of its universe. Thus, surrounded by an entirely new cast, the filmmaker has created the new hit series for Netflix.
A Special Guest in Season 3?
The plot follows Eddie Horniman (Theo James), a former soldier who inherits his father’s dukedom as well as his criminal empire. He embarks on this new life with the enigmatic Susie Glass (Kaya Scodelario), and his eccentric older brother Freddy (Daniel Ings).
Already ordered, season 3 is already the subject of much speculation. Several outlets have announced Meghan Markle’s participation in a supporting role, which would mark her major return to television. However, it appears that the Duchess of Sussex has decided against the project due to the media fallout surrounding her return to British soil.
The first two seasons of The Gentlemen are now available exclusively on Netflix.
