Shocking Move: Trump and Musk Team Up to Slash Regulations in New Gov Department!

President-elect Donald Trump disclosed on Tuesday that Elon Musk, currently the wealthiest individual globally, a major contributor to the Republican campaign, and a recipient of numerous government contracts, will co-chair a new department focused on dismantling federal regulations and reducing government spending.

Musk, who oversees a number of companies currently under federal investigation, will lead the proposed Department of Government Efficiency together with Vivek Ramaswamy, a biotech mogul.

“These two outstanding Americans will lead the charge in my administration to break down government bureaucracy, eliminate unnecessary regulations, trim wasteful spending, and overhaul federal agencies,” Trump proclaimed in a statement. He did not elaborate on how the department would be funded or its strategies for achieving these broad goals. It is important to note that Congress, poised to be dominated by the Republicans come January, holds the power over federal finances.

Trump explained that the committee “will draw on insights from outside the government and collaborate with both the White House and the Office of Management & Budget to initiate extensive structural reforms and foster an unprecedented entrepreneurial spirit within the government.”

In the recent presidential election, during which Musk contributed over $100 million in support of Trump, the CEO of Tesla suggested that a government efficiency commission would target $2 trillion in spending cuts. This figure, noted by The Washington Post, surpasses the total budgets of the Pentagon and the Departments of Education and Homeland Security combined.

In a virtual town hall in late October, Musk admitted that the significant reductions he envisions would cause “temporary hardship” for the average American citizen.

Furthermore, Musk has framed his campaign to slash federal regulations as crucial for human survival, stating that “humanity will never reach Mars” without “clearing away the mountain of stifling regulations.”

“This will send shockwaves through the system, affecting everyone involved in government waste, which includes many,” Musk commented during the announcement of the new commission.

“It’s absurd to appoint the quintessential corporate mogul to oversee a commission on government spending and regulations,” said Lisa Gilbert, co-president of the watchdog group Public Citizen.

“The role of government regulations is to safeguard the American populace,” Gilbert explained. “We rely on these regulations to protect our air, water, workers, children’s safety, and much more. The term ‘cutting red tape’ is often used as a euphemism for removing the protections that keep us safe, all for corporate gain. Our real issue is the corporate domination of our public policy, not the false narrative that corporations are overly burdened by regulations.”

Gilbert continued, “Musk has consistently demonstrated a lack of understanding about government efficiency and regulation, often running afoul of the very rules he’s now set to challenge in his new executive role. This epitomizes corporate corruption. Anyone questioning whether the Trump administration will serve the average person or the billionaires should now have their answer.”

A recent report by Public Citizen in October revealed that “at least three of Musk’s enterprises are currently being investigated for alleged misconduct by no fewer than nine federal agencies.”

Following his endorsement of Trump during the summer, Musk has significantly influenced the Republican leader’s political maneuvers, affecting his vice-presidential selection and influencing his choices for key positions in the upcoming administration. According to a report by The New York Times on Wednesday, Musk “has participated in nearly every job interview with the Trump team” and is “endeavoring to place his Silicon Valley associates in high-ranking roles in the next government.”

Since Trump’s electoral victory last week, Musk’s fortune has increased by billions of dollars. He has also actively promoted the president-elect on X, the social media platform he acquired in 2022, which he has turned into a hub for right-wing misinformation.

“Prepare for chaos, revenge, greed, rampant abuses of power, and the unchecked rule of corrupt plutocrats and oligarchs this January, with Elon Musk at the forefront,” warned consumer rights legend Ralph Nader over the weekend.
