Star Wars Actor of 48 Years Revealed as Uncle to Famous Star – Guess Who?

At the age of 77, British actor Denis Lawson has appeared in four episodes of the Star Wars saga. But do you know who his famous nephew is?

The year is 1977.

Revolutionizing the pop culture landscape, the first installment of the Star Wars saga hits theaters. As the film draws to a close, the final battle commences. In tight formation, a squadron of X-Wings dives into the formidable trench of the Death Star. Their mission: to fire a missile into the base’s only weak spot and destroy it.

A Legendary Pilot

Inside the cockpits of these small fighter ships, we find none other than Luke Skywalker, along with pilots named Biggs and Porkins, and another distinguished pilot.

His name is Wedge Antilles, portrayed by British actor Denis Lawson in A New Hope, followed by The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and even 36 years later in The Rise of Skywalker.

You might not have noticed this relatively minor character, but regardless, you most certainly know the actor’s nephew. Indeed, Denis Lawson, also seen in Alain Resnais’s Providence, the drama Broken, and the series Jekyll, is the uncle of none other than… Ewan McGregor.

The Uncle of Obi-Wan

Far more famous than his relative, Ewan has also played a hero in George Lucas’s distant galaxy, none other than the legendary Obi-Wan Kenobi in the prequel trilogy.

Beyond the iconic Jedi Master (originally portrayed by Alec Guinness), Ewan McGregor is also known for his roles as the lead in Trainspotting and the protagonist of Moulin Rouge. He has appeared in Michael Bay’s The Island, Tim Burton’s Big Fish, and Juan Antonio Bayona’s The Impossible.

In 2012, in the science fiction drama Perfect Sense by David Mackenzie, Ewan McGregor and Denis Lawson shared the screen for the first time in their respective careers, although Ewan played the film’s hero and his uncle had a very minor role.
