Star Wars Icons Meet for the First Time After 37 Years!

Key figures in the “Star Wars” series, Carrie Fisher, who played Princess Leia, and James Earl Jones, the voice of Darth Vader, took quite a long time to meet in person.

Can you believe two major “Star Wars” performers didn’t meet face-to-face until 2014? It’s true! The late Carrie Fisher and James Earl Jones had never crossed paths on a film set of the franchise because Jones was always in a sound booth, lending his voice to the iconic character of Darth Vader (physically portrayed by David Prowse). It took many years before they finally had the chance to meet in person!

The first “real” on-screen meeting between Carrie Fisher, the legendary interpreter of Princess Leia, and James Earl Jones happened in 2014 during episode 14 of the seventh season of “The Big Bang Theory,” titled “The Convention Conundrum.” Disappointed at not getting tickets for San Diego Comic-Con, the geeky gang fantasizes about which “Star Wars” stars could be invited if they hosted their own convention.

Sheldon then gets the opportunity to meet James Earl Jones, the voice of Darth Vader, with whom he forms a friendship, including a karaoke session and a sauna visit! Later in the episode, “Star Wars” fans rejoice as James Earl Jones takes Sheldon to Carrie Fisher’s home. He rings the doorbell and then runs away. Fisher comes out, furious, baseball bat in hand, and exclaims, “It’s not funny anymore, James!”

“That brief scene was a way for them to finally interact for real,” James Earl Jones said in an interview with IGN. It was a hilarious (and somewhat touching) moment that can be viewed in the player below.

For a bit of backstory, when the two Hollywood stars first saw each other backstage at “The Big Bang Theory,” Carrie Fisher (who famously slapped a “Star Wars” saga star 27 times) exclaimed, “Daddy!” in reference to the fact, as most fans know, Princess Leia is Darth Vader’s daughter.
